Shaun Whalley Post Luton

Shaun Whalley reacts to Town's narrow defeat at Luton Town

Shrewsbury Town fell to a narrow defeat at the hands of Luton Town yesterday afternoon.

Askey’s men were unlucky not to leave Kenilworth Road with three points after taking the lead on two occasions.

Shaun Whalley was disappointed to be leaving Luton after his teams strong performance in the first-half.

“The lads are gutted again,” Shaun said post match. “So is the manager and the staff.

“We have to go again, but today I thought we made a good start and in the first-half we were the better team, even though they had more possession than us.

“We always looked like we were dangerous and we restricted them to hardly any chances in the first-half – apart from long range efforts.

“Second-half, I cant put my finger on what went wrong really. Credit to Luton, they played really well in the second-half and got themselves back into the game.

“We scored with a freak goal that you aren’t ever likely to see again this season. We should have done better than what we did.”

Despite playing a number of games, Town are still searching for their first win and Shaun is hoping that win comes in the next game.

“It has been really disappointing,” Whalley said. “We have just got to go again. We have Manchester City on Tuesday and a league game the following Saturday.

“We have got to pick ourselves up. We will be disappointed tonight, but come Monday we will try to put things right.

“I think we can take comfort from the fact no one has battered us. I don’t think anyone will, we have a strong team and a strong squad.

“The manager is new and he’s getting his ideas across to us, but we just want to keep going and hope it will turn for us.”

Town next face Manchester City Under 21’s next in the Checkatrade Trophy clash on Tuesday evening.
