Shaun Whalley Pre Charlton Athletic

Winger Shaun Whalley looks ahead to Saturday's game against Charlton

Shrewsbury Town’s next fixture is a trip to The Valley to take on Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic.

Shaun Whalley and his team return to The Valley after Play-off semi-final success last time round.

The winger is looking forward to the challenge and is feeling good ahead of the fixture.

“I’m feeling brilliant,” Shaun said. “I missed one week of pre-season due to illness, apart from that I have trained everyday and it was a good pre-season.

“I thought we did quite well on Saturday against Bradford, but obviously we didn’t get the result and we are looking to put that right this Saturday against Charlton.

“The team comes first but I was quite pleased with my performance, even though I never scored or got an assist. Our general play was quite good and we are looking to push on and do even better at Charlton.

“I feel better every season, touch wood I haven’t lost my legs yet. My mind is getting a lot better I have more experience now and I am looking to do well again this season.

Shaun feels the new faces around the club are more than enough to help the team challenge top teams in the league, starting with The Addicks on Saturday.

“The lads who the gaffer has brought in look really good,” Whalley told Shrewsbweb. “It can only be a positive that he is brining good players in.

“It’s going to be a tough game, they are going to be right up for it because we beat them in the play-offs.”

“We are just looking to win our next game and the next game is Charlton, so we want to win it.

“I watched the first half of the Charlton v Sunderland game and they looked very good. I’m sure they’re going to really be up for it.

“Anyone can beat anyone in this league, but we can definitely go there and get a good result, it just depends on the day.”
