Safe Standing launches successfully against Bradford City
Shrewsbury Town became the first club in England and Wales to operate a safe standing section on Saturday with the fixture against Bradford City.
After months of hard work from the Supporters Parliament and Brian Caldwell,
550 fans made history by being the first set of fans to enjoy a safe standing section in England and Wales.
“I thought it went really well to be honest,” Town’s CEO said.
“I thought everybody that was in the area seemed to enjoy it and it was a really good atmosphere.
“I think it’s something we can build on working closely again with the Supporters Parliament.
“I stood inside there my self on Saturday and it was really, really good. A great atmosphere and I think everybody thoroughly enjoyed it.
“It is part of the long term aim, people who want to stand can stand in a safe place but also help the atmosphere as well.
“I think with it being beside the family stand, what I want to achieve from that is people who maybe come with children or come with their parents that when they graduate to the next step when they come themselves, that will be the place they go.
“I’m sure it will be because that’s where the noise is coming from but I thought everybody in there was absolutely brilliant. It was a real party atmosphere.”
Brian was full of pride when he saw the hard work of the Supporters Parliament and the Club pay off with the successful launch of the area.
“Roger Groves and Mike Davis, who I need to pay tribute to, have worked tirelessly on this to get us to where we were on Saturday,” Brian told Shrewsweb.
“The three of us have put a lot of work in. I think we were all very proud on Saturday to see how good it was and to see it in action.
“It has been a long time in the planning since last February when this first started by Roger, Mike and myself.
“We got there and you could see how much people enjoyed it.”
Tickets are available in the safe standing area for the Carabao Cup tie against Burton Albion.
