Eric Ramsay First Team Coach

Eric Ramsay speaks about his new role as First Team Coach

Shrewsbury Town were delighted to announce last week that Eric Ramsay and Danny Coyne had been appointed as First Team Coaches.

Eric and Danny oversaw Town during the clubs managerial search and guided the team to a string of positive results.

Eric Ramsay spoke to Shrewsweb today and gave an insight into how he’s finding his new role.

“I’ve really enjoyed it, it hasn’t been a great deal different to how it was when it was just me and Dan here really, so I’ve slotted in seamlessly and not a great deal has changed in that sense.

“I’m really happy to be continuing to do what I have done in the last month or so, and we’re in a good place.

Eric Spoke about the differences between First-Team football and Academy Football.

“I think the importance placed on results is probably the biggest difference. The process of trying to develop players and teams isn’t hugely different, but the outcome on a Saturday is all important at this level whereas with the youth team that’s not necessarily the most important thing.

“With the Academy, in general, you are more concerned with your performances as opposed to the team's results but at First-Team level, it’s three points or nothing come Saturday.

Eric is keen to still keep an eye on the young players in the Academy set-up.
“Yes I really enjoy working with young players, helping to develop players and that’s definitely a component of my role as First Team Coach.

“We’ve got a lot of young players in the group, lots of promising academy graduates and lots of promising players beneath that.

“it’s not a case of me now being First Team Coach and taking my eye off of the ball in terms of young player because that’s something I’ve always done and will continue to do.

“That’s probably the most exciting part of my role, that I can influence the young players who are at the top end of the Academy and those who have just graduated to the First Team.

“I think it’s important at every club that there’s someone working with the First Team who has invested interest in the young players that are coming through, because I guarantee that there are players playing at most Academies that are good enough to play at first team level eventually, it’s just the care they get as they make the step from academy to first team level and the opportunities they get.

“So hopefully with the position, I’m in I can help facilitate that.”
