Luke Waterfall post Sunderland

30 December 2018

Luke Waterfall reflects on Town's 1-1 draw with Sunderland.

Town were on the road again this afternoon as the Shrews took on Sunderland at the Stadium Of Light.

Luke Waterfall was the man on form to score a goal, which secured Town a point on the road against the Black Cats.

Luke was pleased with the point and was pleased with the performance from his team.

“I am sure we would have taken a point before,” said Luke. “But we do come in to every game trying to win.

“We had a game plan today and I thought the boys executed it brilliantly. First-half we really frustrated Sunderland.

“The second-half they were on top, but they didn’t create too much. I thought the lads put their bodies on the line and defended excellently.

“We had some good chances and could have nicked it at the end. We did limit them and Steve didn’t have many saves to make.

“The lads put their bodies on the line for the team today and that was very pleasing.”

Luke was pleased to have scored a goal and felt it came at an important time for his team.

“Greg has been putting some great balls in lately and it is something we do work on - fair play to him,” said Luke.

“It is always nice to get on the end of one. Like I said before, I always fancy myself when I go up for set pieces.

“If the balls can keep coming in like that, then hopefully I will get a couple more.

“It’s always good to score a goal to be fair. More importantly, it was a key goal for the team.

“It put the team 1-0 up and gave us something to hold on to. We are disappointed with the equaliser.

“I feel if we could have held out to half time, then we could have gone on to get all three points.

“Their equaliser came from a good bit of play to be fair. It was a great bit of quality.

“We are back in on Monday and we will look back at the goal and pick the bones out of it.”
