Mat Sadler post Peterborough United

16 December 2018

Mat Sadler reflects on Town's 2-2 draw with Peterborough United.

Shrewsbury Town managed to earn a well deserved point against the in form Peterborough United last evening.

Town took the lead on two occasions but were unable to secure all three points against the Posh.

First-team captain Mat Sadler was disappointed to not have come away with all three points but feels his team did well overall.

“We are disappointed to have conceded so late,” said Mat. “I thought, especially in the second-half, we did enough to win the game.

“Peterborough are decent, they were fourth in the league before the game and they have legs and energy at the top of the pitch.

“It was very difficult conditions to say the least – especially in the first-half. It was very difficult to defend in, but I thought we had done enough.

“Ultimately we just need to be better at seeing those little final moments out, albeit I don’t think you’ll see a more committed group.

“We work very hard for each other and it was just very disappointing to concede so late on.”

Mat was disappointed with the goal and feels his team could have done better to hold onto the three points.

“First of all I’m not sure if it was a corner or not,” the defender said. “Anyway, they put a ball in and there is a flick at the near post.

“The ball landed right in the middle of the six-yard box, or even closer, in amongst bodies.

“My foot was in there, there were other feet in there. I was worried about hitting it against someone into the back of the net.

“It was one of those confusion pinball moments. Firstly, what we would like to get better at is dealing with the short corner.

“We want to try and stop that ball from coming in – that would be the message.”
