Sam Adds Jon Pitts To Staff

4 December 2018

Head of Performance comes in to help give players the edge

Sam Ricketts has confirmed Jon Pitts has joined his backroom staff as Head of Performance.

The coach will be at the club several times a week and will work along side Town’s new manager.

Ricketts explained more about Jon’s appointment in today’s press conference.

“Jon has come in with me,” said Sam. “I met him about 15 years ago. As a player there was no sport science in football – there was just a manager and a coach.

“I first met John when he was a sports scientist, and he has been at Brentford and a number of other clubs.

“Since that he has evolved into other areas. He will be trying to improve everyone’s performance – the performance of players and the performance of staff.

“It isn’t just a coaching role, it’s a little bit of everything. If we can tap into ways of getting our messages across to players – hopefully it can bare fruit in the long run.”

“The mind is the biggest performance factor for anyone so if we can tap into different ways of getting our messages across to players or reading situations a little bit better then hopefully it will bear fruit in the long-run.

“I am not quite sure how you would describe Jon. I am a big believer in controlling only what you can control. I cannot stop an opponent from curling the ball into the top corner, but I can take control of pretty much everything else.”
