Sam Ricketts post Coventry City

22 December 2018

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's 1-0 win against Coventry City.

Shrewsbury Town ran out 1-0 winners over tonight’s visitors Coventry City.

Aaron Amadi-Holloway got the goal for Town that saw the Shrews claim a first win for Sam Ricketts.

Sam was pleased with the performance and feels his team deserved the win.

“I loved it,” Sam said. “What I loved most was the performance, especially in the second-half. I thought we were excellent in that half.

“The only thing that was missing was that final action – whether that be a shot or a pass to put the ball into the back of the net.

“We got the goal and our mentality changed a little bit and you could see Coventry were desperate to win the game.

“The game got a little bit stretched, but the will, desire and determination to win the game got us over the line.

“The goal came from a great delivery into the box and an excellent header. That is something we work at and we want to get better at.

“It’s nice for all the good play to win the game.”

Sam was also pleased with the contribution from the goal scorer and hopes to see more from the striker.

“Aaron is a player who has tremendous attributes,” said the Town manager. “Maybe he doesn’t realise how good he is and doesn’t realise how much potential he has.

“It’s down to us to try and get more of that out of him. I haven’t seen a centre-half who can deal with him yet.

“If we can add goals to his game, then there is no reason why he can't be a very, very good player.”
