Sam Ricketts pre Peterborough United

13 December 2018

Sam Ricketts looks ahead to Town's clash with Peterborough United.

Shrewsbury Town welcome Peterborough United to the Montgomery Waters Meadow this Saturday.

Town will be looking for a return to winning ways and a first league win for Sam Ricketts in the game against the Posh.

Sam felt his team had some positive moments in the last league fixture and hopes to see more in this weekend’s fixture.

“We were the team on the front foot for the majority of the game,” said Sam. “Unfortunately our mistakes got punished and Burton’s didn’t.

“I’m not saying we were great, but I certainly thought we were good enough to earn a draw.

“You can’t give soft goals away and that’s basically what we did. We made a couple of mistakes.

“Even the second goal had three poor clearances, but that’s football. You have to be clinical in both boxes and we weren’t.

“The desire to get back into the game was one of the biggest positives. Burton were desperate to stay in the game and we were the team on the front foot.

“We pushed Burton all the way but unfortunately couldn’t get that goal.”

Sam is looking forward to the visit of Peterborough but expects a tough test from the inform side.

“They are one of the form sides in the league,” said Sam. “They are near the top of the table and deserve to be.

“It’s a good game for us and a good test – something which myself and the players are looking forward to.

“We are going into the game knowing that if we perform like we know we can, there is definitely something there for us.

“They have some good players going forward and are really exciting as a front four.

“They like to shoot and take people on, they are fairly direct with pace and power in there.

“They will ask us an awful lot of questions during the game and make you defend and be solid.”
