Sam Ricketts pre Sunderland

28 December 2018

Sam Ricketts looks ahead to Town's tie with Sunderland.

Shrewsbury Town next take on Sunderland in another Sky Bet League One away fixture.

Town will be looking for a return to winning ways after losing out against Accrington Stanley.

Sam Ricketts was disappointed with the result and hopes his team show improvement against the North East side.

“We were disappointed with the result,” said Sam. “You learn when you win and you learn when you lose.

“We learnt things in the game that we can work on and put into practise, which will hopefully make us better in the long run.

“I never want to lose. I want to learn when we win, but as a team we will be better following on from that game.

“You don’t really get a chance to work with the players during this busy period. We are asking players to train when normally they would be in recovery.

“This is a relentless three weeks to be honest, going into early January. It’s a busy period but that’s fine.

“We have more than enough players to cope and we relish the games. The games are the best bit about football.

“Although, there are times when you need that time on the training ground.”

Sam is expecting a tough test from the home side but is focused on getting a win for his team.

“I am expecting a good game,” said Town’s manager. “It’s not easy for them when they are the biggest side in the league.

“Everyone wants to play them and wants to go up against them. Teams feel they have a free shot against them.

“There are some good players up there. They have players who have been at the top level and players who have won promotion from this league, so it will be a good game.

“We will go there with our game plan set in place and if we execute that to the best of our abilities – we will have a chance of winning the game.”
