John McAtee to spend time on-loan at AFC Telford United

Shrewsbury Town can confirm that John McAtee will join AFC Telford United on-loan until the end of the season.

McAtee spent the first-half of the season on-loan with Evo-Stick Premier Division side Halesowen Town, scoring six goals and will now move into the National League North with Telford.

AFC Telford United are currently 21st in the league, a point away from safety, after they beat North Ferriby 3-0 on Saturday.

Town boss Paul Hurst is hopeful that this loan move will be a productive one for McAtee.

“It’s a step up for John”, said Paul.

“I spoke with Rob (Edwards) last Monday and then we spoke about it as the week progressed. There’s no guarantees that he will play and I’ve said all along I’d never send player out and try to have that power over another club and another manager.

“From speaking to John we both felt it was a good option for him and he’s got to earn the right to be in that team. In training he’s got to impress and if he’s coming off the bench initially then he’s got to take that opportunity.

“He did very well when he went out to Halesowen, created a little bit of a buzz about himself and people since have spoken about him to me. We are pleased with how he’s trained and this is hopefully the next step in his progression.”
