Omar Beckles Pre Plymouth Argyle

Beckles looks ahead to Argyle home game

Shrewsbury Town defender Omar Beckles admits that it was a nice feeling to score his first goal for the club last weekend.

Beckles scored Town’s first goal in last weekend’s last gasp 2-1 victory over Bristol Rovers and he was pleased to be off the mark.

“It was a really good feeling”, admitted Omar.

“It’s been a long time coming, overdue, but it was a really good feeling to get the goal. I have expectations of how many goals I want to get in the season, so it was good to get off the mark.

“When strikers come to a team everyone talks about getting off the mark or are the jinxed because they aren’t getting off the mark, so it’s always good to get off the mark and now hopefully more will come.

“I strongly believe that I will get goals throughout the season, so I definitely feel like I will be getting more after that.”

Plymouth have been on a fantastic run of late, losing just three times since early October, but Omar isn’t worrying about that and instead wants Town to concentrate on what they can do.

“There’s a few sides that are on the up”, said Beckles.

“I think Gillingham are doing the same, they’ve got a crazy little run going on and they are in the top half, so it’s a tough league.

“We aren’t taking anyone for granted. We know that we can’t take Plymouth lightly, they’ve got some really good players, so we will have to be ready for the job.

“We just want to win games regardless of what run they are on or whatever they are doing. We don’t really care. We just want to win games and that’s what it’s all about.”

Town return to the Montgomery Waters Meadow this weekend after two good wins on the road and Beckles praised the fans impact this season.

“It’s always good to play in front of your home fans and they have been outstanding this season, so it’s always good to play in front of your home crowd.”
