Skipper looks ahead to West Ham replay

Shrewsbury Town Captain Abu Ogogo is looking forward to playing in one of the biggest games of his career to date when Town take on West Ham tomorrow night.

Ogogo will lead the team out in front of over 30,000 fans at the London Stadium for the FA Cup Third Round replay and he is excited about the occasion.

“These are the games you want to play in - you want to play in front of a big crowd”, said Abu.

“We go there confident. We’ve got no pressure on us, so hopefully we can put in a performance and get the victory.

“We don’t play at these stadiums often and some of the boys won’t play in front of crowds like this in their careers, so we go there relishing the opportunity.”

Town performed admirably in the first game against West Ham, not allowing the Premier League side a shot on goal, and Abu admits that they are confident of causing an upset.

“No one wants to go there and lose, you want to try and win”, said Ogogo.

“In a sense it is a little bit of a free hit, but we are going to go there and try and win a game like we always do.

“We know it’s going to be tough. The first game was tough and now we are going to their ground, so they are going to be more comfortable.

“They are going to have a few players back fit, so we know it’s going to be a tough game but it’s the FA Cup and anything can happen.

“I think we were probably the better team in that first game and probably should have won the game. We can take confidence from the first game and if we can play like that in the second game we can hopefully get the win.”

3,000 Town fans will be travelling to the London Stadium on Tuesday night and Ogogo is hopeful of giving them something to cheer about.

“The boys appreciate their support”, Abu said.

“It’s a good turnout and they are coming a long way to support us, so hopefully we can give them something to cheer about on the way back.”
