Alex Rodman Pre Blackburn Rovers

Rodman looks ahead to clash between second and third

Shrewsbury Town Winger Alex Rodman admits he is relishing the opportunity of travelling to former Premier League Champions Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Town are five points clear of Rovers, but Blackburn haven’t lost in the league for 14 matches.

It all makes for a mouth-watering contest between two of League One’s top sides and Alex can’t wait for the game to come round.

“It’s a fantastic game to look forward to, especially on the back of some very good form that we are in”, Rodman told ShrewsWeb.

“The Gaffer said yesterday that we haven’t lost since November, so we are obviously in a really good run of form and we know that we can go eight points clear of them on Saturday if we win, which is phenomenal really given where we should be.

“It’s a game that you want to be involved in and a game you look forward too. If you’d have given us this position at the start of the season we would have bitten your hand off, so we will go there full of confidence and hopefully pick up three points.”

Blackburn were the bookies favourites for promotion this season and despite Town being higher in the table, Rodman believes the pressure is all on the hosts.

“They’re obviously on a good run of form and they’ve got some good players, but I would say the pressure is on them”, Alex said.

“They are Blackburn Rovers, they should be up there, they are meant to be up there. We have done phenomenally well this season, we weren’t meant to be where we are, but we are through hard work and determination and I think all the pressure’s on them at home.”

Alex played in the 1-1 draw against Rovers earlier this season and he admits that they are a good side, but believes that Town can match them.

“They’ve got some good individual players and some players that have played higher”, said Rodman.

“Bradley Dack’s obviously an influential player for them and I heard that they’ve signed Armstrong from Newcastle this week, who is proven and has scored goals, so they’ve got players with pedigree, but I think one thing we have proved all season is that we’ve got good players too.

“I hear a lot of comments from other players and from managers about how we play and we are a nightmare to play against because we work so hard, we are so disciplined, we have got a fantastic shape and defensively we are so solid, so I don’t think any team will look forward to playing us.”
