Loan Update

A look at how our players are getting on away from the club

George Hughes made his debut for Clitheroe this weekend, as they drew 2-2 with Ossett Town in the Evo-Stick First Division North. Ossett took the lead but Clitheroe hit back with a brace from Alex Newby, the second of which came from a George Hughes free-kick. However, midway through the second-half Clitheroe went down to 10-men when Ross Dent was sent off for a handball and they didn’t manage to hold out as Ossett equalised two minutes from time with a thunderbolt.

AJ Leitch-Smith celebrated the extension of his loan with Dundee by scoring in their Fourth Round Scottish Cup tie against Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Inverness took the lead in the first-half, but AJ levelled two minutes after the break after a lovely one-two with Scott Allan. Dundee then went two one up, but George Oakley scored an 87th minute equaliser to take it to a replay, which will be played on Tuesday 30th January.

Zak Jules spent his first game at Port Vale on the bench as they were beaten 3-2 by Accrington Stanley. Vale had led two-nil thanks to goals from Tom Pope and Michael Tonge, but a Sean McConville brace and one from Billy Kee gave John Coleman’s side victory.

Meanwhile, the weather played its part as Chris Gallagher’s Stalybridge Celtic had their game against Grantham postponed. Whilst, Newtown didn’t have a scheduled fixture this weekend, so there was no action for Callum Roberts or Ryan Sears.
