Lowe reflects on penalty shootout win

Defender Max Lowe was pleased to make his full Shrewsbury Town debut in their penalty shootout win over Blackpool last night.

Lowe made a substitutes appearance against West Ham on Sunday, but this was his first start for the club and he helped keep a clean-sheet in the process.

The shootout victory means that Town have now reached the last-eight of the competition and Max believes they deserved the win.

“It was a good game to be involved in, I was happy to get more minutes under my belt and topped it off with the win, so I’m buzzing and the lads are as well”, Lowe told the Press.

“We take it game by game and the mentality doesn’t change. We take it as if we are playing West Ham every week, that’s how we saw it tonight and I think we proved that because we dug in at times.

“I thought we could have gone on and won the game in normal time, but that didn’t happen and Deano has pulled off some great saves and we’ve deservedly got the win.”

It’s been a whirlwind first week Derby County loanee, but he feels as if he is settling in well.

“With it being my first loan I’m just trying to learn every day”, Lowe said.

“I’m picking things up off the senior lads and even the young lads as well because some of them are out on loan as well, so it’s only going to benefit me.

“I came in on the Friday and I was nervous, like you would be, but I feel like it’s home already and I’m buzzing to keep going, keep the games rolling and hopefully it goes well.”

Town are back in league action for the first time in 12 days when they face Blackburn Rovers on Saturday and Lowe admitted that that competition remains the priority.

“We know that the league is the most important”, Max said.

“We aren’t going to get ahead of ourselves because we are second in the league. We are going to take it game by game and we know that Blackburn is a massive game, so we will go into it with the same mentality that we have been with the recent games and we will look forward to it.”
