Paul Hurst on Loan Situation

4 January 2018

Gaffer gives an update on Town's youngster's out on-loan

Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst has given ShrewsWeb an update on the situation of Town’s young players that have spent the first-half of the season on-loan away from the club.

Shaun Rowley and Callum Roberts returned from their loan spells at Tamworth and TNS respectively this week.

Paul was pleased to welcome Shaun and Callum back and will now make a decision on the next step in their development.

“In terms of Shaun it might be that he is on the bench for us, so I’m more than happy to welcome Shaun back.

“I think Tamworth were relatively happy with how he’s done but didn’t want to keep him for long, so he will be back with us. We will look at his situation, but certainly for this coming game I want him with us and we will have a chat after that about the next move.

“Callum’s come back from his loan at TNS and we will be looking to try and secure him another loan move elsewhere. He started off playing and then found it difficult to be in the side, so we will try and get him somewhere where we feel he might have a better chance of getting more minutes.”

Two other players that have spent much of the first-half of the season away from the Montgomery Waters Meadow are John McAtee and Ryan Sears and Hurst will also look at their situations this month.

“They will both be looking to be out on loan again”, said Paul.

“I think in John’s case nothing is definite but there is interest from higher up the pyramid, which is what I would like him to explore because I think he’s gone to Halesowen and done really well in a team that aren’t winning every week, so I’m really pleased with how that loan has gone and I would like him to take the next step.

“Ryan’s is due to expire in about 10 days’ time. We are looking at that to see what the best way forward is for him. I think Newtown would really like to keep him because he’s done really well for him, but we will see if there are any other options out there for him before making a final decision with the player.”
