Nathan Thomas joins until the end of the season from Sheffield United
Shrewsbury Town are pleased to announce the signing of Nathan Thomas on-loan until the end of the season.
Thomas joins from Sky Bet Championship side Sheffield United, whom he signed for in May last year.
The 23-year-old winger is somebody that Paul Hurst has been tracking for a while and he is delighted to finally get the deal done.
“It’s been a long drawn out process in this window and in all honesty the last window and the window before that”, admitted Paul.
“He’s somebody that I’ve been a fan of for some time, particularly from playing against him when I was at Grimsby and he was at Hartlepool.
“He’s very talented and I think he’s got that little bit extra. He can score special goals maybe when you need that little bit of magic.
“I think I said earlier in the season that we hadn’t scored many goals from outside the box, he might not score any for us, but he has done in the past and he has the ability to.
“I think he could play in behind a striker, he could play wide and he just has really good ability on the ball. That’s why Sheffield United took him.
“They haven’t played him, but I think he’s been more a victim of how well they’ve done and a certain system because I don’t think it’s because he’s not a good enough footballer.”
Thomas is capable of playing in a number of forward positions and Paul believes he brings greater competition to the group.
“He had interest in this window, but he’d given us his word and thankfully he’s stuck to that and said that if he was going to be going out on-loan then he would come to us”, Hurst continued.
“Thankfully, now that’s happened and it adds more strength to the squad, more quality, heightens competition, which for me we needed.
“We’ve been saying this since August and I didn’t quite manage to get things across the line that I felt comfortable with, but now we’ve got that for what I think is going to be a very important stage of the season for us.”
