John Askey reflects on the pre-season training camp in Valencia
The Shrewsbury Town squad have now all returned after a positive Pre-Season trip to Spain.
The squad spent a week in the warm weather conditions preparing for the season ahead.
“It was great,” the boss said. “The facilities were fantastic and we were really well looked after and we couldn’t have asked for anything better in regards to the facilities, the food and everything else.
“I think the players enjoyed being away and we haven’t had any injuries so it was a good trip and it was good for me to get to know the players and find out more about them.
“I saw improvements as the week went on, the football improved. They’re very fit lads and they’ve come back really fit so I’m not worried about fitness levels.
“The majority of the players who are here know each other anyway and the three that we bought in are all decent lads who have fitted in well with the rest of the players.
“At the moment I’m pleased but obviously we need to add those extra players to give us that lift.
“I think when you’re together for a week you live in each others pockets and get to know people far more by doing that than what you can do for a whole season.
“It became a bit of a bonding session as much as anything and it will stand us in good stead I hope.”
