John Askey talks about plans for the week in Spain

Town’s Pre-Season trip to Spain has started with the squad reaching their Oliva Nova training base on Sunday.

Town will spend one week training in the warm weather conditions with the hope the trip will be as beneficial as last season’s trip to Portugal.

Manager John Askey is hopeful the week will help bring the squad closer together.

“It will give everybody a chance to get to know each other,” Askey said.

“It played good dividends last season and I’m sure it will this season. It gives me a chance to get to know the players better and a chance for them to get to know me.

“You come to the training ground everyday throughout the season. So to get away to a different environment I think is good.

“They’ll be together 24 hours a day more or less so they will know each other far better after the trip.”

Askey also outlined his training scheduling and plans for the squad whilst out in Spain. He said: “Most days will be training three times a day: A jog at half past seven, a morning session and then an afternoon session.

“It will be quite tough but one that hopefully everybody is looking forward to and will come out better for it.

“The good thing is the football is on so it gives us all something to look forward in the evenings so that will be a help.

“I’m sure the players amongst themselves will be thinking of things to do to make it as enjoyable as possible.”
