Gaffer looks ahead to Bristol City friendly

Shrewsbury Town’s next fixture is a trip away to face Bristol City in Town’s second Pre-Season game.

The team will travel to Ashton Gate for the one o’clock fixture against The Robbns.

Askey feels Bristol will provide a good challenge for his squad as they look to further prepare for the season ahead.

“We had the Kidderminster game to get some minutes under our belt and to get used to playing 11 v 11 competitively,” Askey said.

“Bristol will be a tough game, especially at their place but it is as much about fitness and getting sharpness as anything.

“I’m not too worries about results at this stage of the season. We’re still not anywhere near as a squad yet but it’s important that everybody gives there all and get the confidence going.”

Askey also feels Ashton Gate will provide a different test in comparison to lilleshall. “It’s completely different,” John said. “The pitch wasn’t great and we could have won by quite a few more.

“It’s hard to get your mind right for games like that, that’s some of the reason to why we play games, to see how the lads react when the pitch isn’t quite right and the opposition isn’t as good as what they’ll play on a Saturday.

“It’s important that their attitude is as good in those games as they are when they play Bristol City.

“Attitude is a big thing, if the attitude is right with the ability that they have got and the fitness they have got then we cant go far wrong so we are just looking forward to Saturday now.”

John Askey has confirmed to the media that a number of trialists will be involved in Saturdays game against Bristol City, including Goal keepers Ben Wilson and Steve Arnold, and midfielder Doug Loft

“We’re working hard to get the right people,”Askey said.

“There is a couple who will be playing tomorrow and we have brought in a goalkeeper to play, so we will have a good look at him.

“Hopefully he does well and he will tick one of the boxes and we can move on for another one. It’s all down to how people play.”
