Gaffer looks ahead to final pre-season game against Vale
John Askey and his squad play their final pre-season fixture tomorrow afternoon against Port Vale.
Askey will be hoping to top off a good pre-season campaign with a win against the Valiants away at Vale Park.
“It’s a good game for us,” said the Gaffer. “Port Vale will be strong in their League next season.
“Because they’re playing us in the League above, it will be a competitive game. Sometimes you’re better off playing teams in the League below, rather than a team above.
“It does have a bit more of a proper game feel to it. Their players will want to be in the starting 11 as ours will be.
“It will be a good game and one that I hope we do well in.”
Askey feels Vale will give his side a similar test as to what his side will face in the coming season and feels this will benefit his squad.
“I think this will be the first game really where you get tested properly, which we need,” Askey said.
“At the end of the day it’s still only a pre-season game. What ever the result, I wont get too carried away.
“Whether we play well or there is good performances, it wont mean anything until the first game.
“We have done well in pre-season with injuries, it’s only Sam Jones who picked up a calf strain in training. Apart from him everybody has been fine.
“Saturday will have a bearing but not too much. We will sit down Monday and I’ll pretty much know what my team is,
“You never know in training you can pick a team and somebody can fall ill or get injured so until next Friday we wont know what the team is.”
Town will face Port Vale before Town’s first Sky Bet League One game against Bradford City at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.
