An eager group of Shrewsbury Town fans all packed themselves into the Sovereign Suite on Monday night for a Q&A session, as it was their first chance to get a real feel for what newly appointed Town manager John Askey had to offer. Askey was joined by his management team John Filan and George Pilkington. Chief Executive Brian Caldwell also took to the hot seat to face over an hours worth of questions from the fans and local press.

During this hour Fans delved deep into the bosses background and his aspirations for the club. As every question passed Askey came into his own, cracking the occasional joke whilst assuring the fans he meant business.

As expected tough questions were thrown Askey’s way regarding transfers and budgets however he did not shy away from an answer. He was keen to stress that he wanted to keep the feel good factor from last season and wanted more of the same spirit from his mostly new set of of players.

Askey opened up about towns previous season stating they were very unlucky not to go up and believes this was due to a lack of players in the squad.

The ex Macclesfield player and manager reminisced about his previous experiences in his career and how he could apply what he had learnt to this new challenge he now faces.

Optimism from the fans and certainly the management team was definitely the word to sum up the feeling in the room, even with Askey stating that staying in the league was his only priority right now.

Town take on Bradford City in their Sky Bet League One opener at the Montgomery Waters Meadow on Saturday (4th August).
