Laurent signs for Town

Midfielder Josh Laurent joins for an undisclosed fee from Wigan Athletic

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce the signing of Midfielder Josh Laurent on a two-year deal.

Laurent joins for an undisclosed fee from last season’s League One Champions Wigan Athletic.

The 23-year-old spent much of last season on-loan at Bury, making 22 appearances and scoring 1 goal.

Josh, who came through the ranks at Wycombe Wanderers and QPR, has also enjoyed spells with Brentford and Hartlepool United in his career.

He is a player that John Askey has tracked throughout the summer and he is pleased to have finally put pen to paper.

“It’s been going on for a while now, about two months maybe, but I’m just happy to get it done and I’m ready to come in and get with the boys”

"The biggest thing for me joining the club is that the Gaffer and the club have shown how much they want me and when you are wanted it makes you want to come here, work extra hard and give back the faith and the trust that’s been given to you.

"Obviously last season was a very successful season, so straight away that attracts you, but he (John Askey) just said that I need to play football and if I come here and work hard, earn your place, then you are going to play, which is a big thing for me."

At 23 Josh is at a good age to develop and he now wants to get a full season of games under his belt.

“I haven’t played a full season where you play all 40 games, so I’m looking forward to hopefully playing as many games as I can”, Laurent said.

“I know last season you had something like 60 games and I would love to play 60 games in one season, so hopefully it’s another successful season and I get 60 games out on the field.

“I’m quite energetic, I can run, I’m box to box. I like to get back and work hard and defend, but I also like to get forward, try and get past the strikers, and get into the box, so that’s what you can expect to see from me.”
