Omar pleased with Town's performance at Ashton Gate

Town got their second Pre-Season friendly underway with a trip to Championship outfit Bristol City.

Askey’s men put on a good performance and left Ashton Gate with a solid 1-1 draw heading into the rest of the campaign.

Omar Beckles was pleased with the result and the manor of his team’s performance. “It was good to get some minutes under our belt,” Omar said.

“It was a good test against a good Championship side and I thought the boys coped really well.

“The new lads impressed, so it’s boding well. We lost some really good players from last season, so it’s good to see the new lads settling in well.

“It was a good confidence boost for all of the lads. You always want to prove to your self that you’re potentially good enough to play at a higher level.

“I think the lads did really well to prove that they’re good enough to play at that level.”

The defender was also pleased to see another one of his attacking teammates getting of the mark with a goal so early on in the season. “Payne has looked really sharp since he has come back,” Omar said.

“He looks really fit and credit to him, he’s deserved that to be honest. He’s been clinical in training and the first chance he got he put it away.

“It’s good to see that he’s back in form like he was last season getting all the goals. Hopefully he can replicate that in this season.”

Omar and the Town squad will next face Burnley on Tuesday in their third game of the Pre-Season campaign.
