Shaun Whalley Post Port Vale

29 July 2018

Shaun pleased to be back playing after illness

Town’s final pre-season game ended in victory for Town as Askey’s men beat Port Vale 4-2.

Goals from Amadi-Holloway, Lenell John-Lewis and Shaun Whalley ensured the team left Vale Park with a victory heading into the season.

Among the goal scorers was Shaun Whalley who netted upon his return to the side from illness. The winger was pleased to be back feeling good with the squad.

“It was great to feel better to he honest,” said Shaun. “I woke up this morning feeling a lot different from what I did last game.

“The game started and for the first 20 minutes I don’t think we played as well as what we can but then we managed to get a foothold in the game.

“Jon played really good ball through and I tucked it away but then after that I thought we dominated.

“Lenny scored another great goal and I thought we put in a pretty good performance.

“I thought Aaron played really well, fair play to him. It was a nice game of football but I’m sure next week will be a true test.

“Hopefully we can have a good week of training and be ready for the Bradford game.”

Town’s Sky Bet League One campaign starts next Saturday as Town welcome the visit of Bradford City to the Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Shaun and the rest of the squad are raring to go after having a successful pre-season campaign.

“It’s going to be hard this season,” the winger said. “No one expected us to be up there and I don’t think anyone outside of Shrewsbury will expect us to do anything this year either.

“Hopefully we can start the season well like last season and go on a decent run and see where that takes us.”

Town will welcome The Bantams to Shrewsbury next Saturday for the three o’clock kick off in Askey’s first competitive game in charge of Town.
