Trialist Update

10 July 2018

Shrewsbury Town can confirm that the three tialist’s who travelled to Spain with the squad will not be joining the Club.

John Askey chose not to sign Devonte Redmond, Jake Kean and Nick Townsend after having a close look at the trio during Town’s trip to Valencia.

Askey felt the players didn’t suit the Club and will look elsewhere to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.

“We are in talks with people but it is important that you wait and get the right ones and that’s what we are doing,” Askey said.

“There is about four weeks to go until the start of the season so there is still a little bit of time and we need that time to get the right people in.

“It’s no use signing people for the sake of signing someone if they aren’t the right ones, It’s important that we are patient.

“There are people lined up and I think it will be within the next week or two before they sign but if they’re the right ones that’s the most important thing.”

Askey is now looking at other options and has brought in some midfielders to train with the team this week.

“It's important we move on and look elsewhere,” Askey said.

“We have had one or two in but there has not been anybody who I think could improve us, but today we have got three or four coming in so hopefully one or two of those will show me what they can do.

“They’ve all got League experience and they’re all decent players so we’re lucky that they’re coming in on trial so it gives me a chance to get to know them as people and see what they can do.”
