CEO pleased with superb Lionel Richie and Anastasia concert
Shrewsbury Town welcomed Lionel Richie to The Montgomery Waters Meadow last evening along with his support act Anastacia.
It was a successful night with over ten thousand fans turning up to watch the Shropshire leg of Lionel’s ‘All The Hits’ UK tour.
Town CEO Brian Caldwell was pleased with how the evening went and gave his thoughts on a fun and successful night for the club and the fans.
“It was a brilliant night,” Brian said.
“I think despite the weather Anastacia and Lionel were absolutely top drawer.
“The feedback we have had from those that have contacted us on social media last night and this morning has been good.
“Everybody has had a really good night and the two of them were fantastic.
“Despite the poor weather, Lionel got everybody dancing and having a good time.
“Lionel helped with that with the way he handled it. He got everybody really going and engaged with the audience.
“I thought the place was absolutely rocking last night and it was fantastic to see.”
Brian was also pleased that the stadium is becoming an established and attractive venue for future concerts. Brian said: “It’s about trying to bring different people in from the local area to The Montgomery Waters Meadow.
“There is an income stream, but it’s not a massive amount of money, but for me it’s all about bringing people to the stadium.
“Even if it makes us a little bit of money, it’s something else we can throw back into the budget for next season.
“We have now had two concerts in two years and I think it’s important we get the right people.
“I think for the area you have to get a headline act and a good name that’s going to fill the place and make it worthwhile for everybody.
“We have to always look at it carefully to make sure that it’s the right person and works for us as a football club and works for the local people.
“Marshall Arts were fantastic and we can’t praise them highly enough and I have told them that I thought their professionalism was top drawer.”
