CEO Updates On Recruitment

Brian Caldwell gives an update on player recruitment

Town CEO Brian Caldwell and manager John Askey are still working behind the scenes to secure Askey’s targets ahead of the opening day of the season.

Town have already snapped up three players but the Chief Executive is still working with John to bring in more players, despite the squad going away on Town’s Pre-Season trip to Spain.

Despite the transfer window being open for a number of weeks Brian is confident the Club will continue to have a positive transfer window.

“You look back at this time last year at the likes of Dean Henderson, James Bolton, Omar Beckles, Stefan Payne, Carlton Morris, Ben Godfrey, who were all main stays of out team last season, hadn’t actually signed at this stage last year,” Brian told ShrewsWeb.

“I understand everybody wants signings but at the end of the day the most important thing is to get the right signings.

“It proved last year by being patient that we signed a lot of players in July and some in August.

“The most important thing is for John to identify the right players. There is no point in just going for numbers to get a few signings in.

“We want the right ones and we want to build onto the squad we have got currently to try to be as compatetive as we possibly can next season.”

Work is constantly going on behind the scenes with John and Brian having discussions with Clubs in the aim if securing John’s targets. Brian said: “It’s difficult sometimes. There has been so much going on behind the scenes.

“Offers that I don’t want to go into any details but its absolutely constant just now with so many plates spinning.

“We’re just waiting for some to land. The difficulty is that sometimes there might be players under contract at Clubs who aren’t willing to let them go until they get a replacement.

“It is difficult and we understand everybody’s frustration but we’re just as frustrated. We want them to land but the most important thing is to try and get the right ones.

“If that means we have to be patient, then we will be patient. This time last year we didn’t have Craig MacGillivray or Dean Henderson signed up so it’s most important that Danny and John Askey pick up the ones that they want to get.”
