Assistant boss talks about the signing of Ryan Haynes

Shrewsbury Town’s Assistant Manager John Filan has given the lowdown on Town’s new signing Ryan Haynes.

Haynes joins Town on a two-year deal having signed for an undisclosed fee from Coventry City.

The 22-year-old left-back has spent his entire career with the Sky Blues and Filan believes he is a player with a lot of promise.

“We were attracted by the player he is now, but even more so the potential that we believe he possesses”, John told ShrewsWeb.

“I think Shrewsbury have got a history of giving people an opportunity to prove themselves and I think with Ryan, we had a good look at him, we investigated his background as much as possible, and he seems a confident young man that is really desperate to get an opportunity.

“Fortunately we’ve got him and we can give him that opportunity, now it’s up to the lad to do the things and reach the potential that we believe he has.”

Haynes played 97 times for Coventry, including 57 games in League One and John believes he has the attributes to make him a success at this level.

“He’s been at Coventry for a long time and in those situations you can get bogged down a little bit and you can get lost a little bit in the system”, said Filan.

“He’s got playing experience in the first-team, he’s a real athlete, I think the fans will be impressed with his energy, and when he does get on the ball and go forward he can make things happen. As a defender we are keen for him to defend properly and work hard.

“I think it’s a good signing for us. We are all about giving people opportunities, we will give him all the support that we can, but at the end of the day it’s up to the lad to take his chance and make a bid for regular football.”
