Gaffer looking forward to working with Fejiri

John Askey has made his first signing as the Shrewsbury Town boss.

Askey has given himself another attacking option with Feriji Okenabirhrie who arrives from Dagenham & Redbridge for an undisclosed fee.

The forward notched 12 goals in the National league for The Daggers last season and Askey gave his thoughts on his new forward.

“I saw quite a bit of him last season,” Askey said.

“For me he was the best forward in the National League and he has come on leaps and bounds this year so we are pleased we were able to get him.

“He’s hungry to do well, he has the ability to do it.

“He’s strong, he’s quick and he’s good on the ball and he gets goals. Hopefully he can make the step up, we will see next season.

“He’s another one who needed to go away and get games under his belt and learn the game. He’s the right age now to come back into league football.”

Askey described what he see’s in Feriji and outlined why he chose the forward as a prime target.

“I like his attitude as well, he has a really good attitude to go along with his ability,” the Gaffer said.

“You want players like him in your squad. They’re young, they’re hungry and they give you the energy.

“He’s a good addition to the squad. He gives you options and that’s what you want as a manger. His best position is Centre Forward but he’s comfortable out wide.”
