Lenell John-Lewis reacts to signing a new one-year deal

Shrewsbury Town Striker Lenell John-Lewis admits that he is delighted to have signed a new deal with the club.

John-Lewis has put pen to paper on a one-year contract which will keep him at the Montgomery Waters Meadow until the end of the 2018/19 season.

Lenell admitted that it took him time to make the decision, but after discussions with John Askey he is pleased to have signed.

“It’s nice to be back, nice to be back to see old faces and new faces as well”, John-Lewis told ShrewsWeb.

“I think after speaking to the Gaffer it was pleasing to hear that he was happy to have me here and that makes it a lot better.

“I had a little bit of time to think about it and in the end, after speaking to the Gaffer, I felt it was best for my family and my footballing career going forward as well.

“The offer was made by the previous manager, so speaking to the Gaffer and him making his intentions clear was pleasing, so hopefully I can get some game time and go from there.”

John-Lewis broke the club record for the number of substitute appearances in a single season last season (44), but he is hoping for more starts next season.

“Everyone will know that I didn’t start many games last season, so it was important for me to see if I would get more game time”, Lenell said.

“I want to get more minutes, more starts, play a more influential role in the team, and hopefully get more goals with that.

“Every footballer wants to start games. I think after the start we had last season it was very tough to get into the team, as anyone who wasn’t in that starting line-up knows, but this season hopefully I can get more games and get more goals.”

“I feel fit, I feel ready to go, so hopefully that will stand me in good stead going forward.”
