A goal and an assist for Rodman against Walsall
Alex Rodman scored the first goal in Towns two nil victory against rivals Walsall, which has kept Town in second place in the Sky Bet League One. The winger was pleased his team secured all three points, he said: “It’s always nice on derby day, it’s lovely to send the fans home happy.
“Derby games are always feisty and intense and I thought we showed our grit and resilience and we dug in.
“It wasn’t a pretty game, but we have come out the other side and it’s all about points on the board now. Were coming towards the end of the season and it’s Crunch time.
“It doesn’t matter what the performance is like it’s just about getting those points on the board and it’s always special in a derby game to do that and I’m really pleased we got all three today.”
Along with his goal, Rodman also set up the goal for Shrews captain Abu Ogogo to round of a good day for the winger: “I’m very happy, I’d like to dedicate that one to my grandpa, it has been a difficult time for me and the family recently with my granddad so I’d like that one to go to him.
“Nolan made the movement and managed to get across the man and it was nice to see the ball coming in so I could drop it into the far corner.
“I thought we started well on the front foot in the first 10 to 15 minutes and then we perhaps dropped of a little bit but we dug in and then Abs popped up with the second goal at the end, so we were able to enjoy the last couple of minutes, we’re really happy with today.
“Abs is huge for us, the way he gets about and presses people and tackles and sets the tone for us, he’s magnificent, he’s been a fantastic skipper and I’m really pleased for him to get on the score sheet today in a big derby game.”
Town travel to Scunthorpe next Saturday to face Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park, Rodman said: “We need to focus on ourselves now and have another big week to prepare for another big game next weekend so that’s what we’re going to be doing.”
