Morris reflects on taking Town to Wembley
Shrewsbury Town Striker Carlton Morris was in a jubilant mood after he sent Town to Wembley in the Checkatrade Trophy.
The Norwich City loanee headed home a corner midway through the second-half and it proved to be enough to see off Yeovil Town.
Town will now face Lincoln City at Wembley on April 8th and Carlton was delighted to have scored the winning goal.
“It’s a great feeling”, Morris said.
“I’m buzzing and I can’t wait to get there. It was a good team performance all round tonight, not our best, but it was good enough on the night.
“We’ve got a lot more to give than that, but it was enough on the night. We will have to give a bit more than that on Saturday in order to get the result.”
Morris reserved special praise for Shaun Whalley, who is now up to 15 assists for the season.
“It was a great delivery from Shaun”, Carlton said.
“You always know you are going to get a good delivery from Shaun so I just made a run, thankfully I got a good block off Sads, and the rest is history.
“It’s not surprising he’s got so many assists. He’s on all our set-pieces and his delivery is first class. He’s always getting at his full-back, putting crosses in, making chances, so it doesn’t surprise me, he should have more if anything.”
Carlton was delighted to get to Wembley, but he isn’t getting ahead of himself.
“We will celebrate tonight, but all season we’ve been taking it game by game”, said Morris.
“That’s where our success has come from, so we will carry on doing that. We’ve got a league game to look forward to at the weekend and we need to finish the season strongly.
“Hopefully we’ve got a good chance to put that (Shrewsbury’s record at Wembley) right. I think we’ve got a good with the team we’ve got and hopefully Wembley’s a nice surface that we can play football on.”
