Community Day

26 March 2018

Shrewsbury Town Community Day hailed a success

Shrewsbury Town in the Community held their annual Community Day before Saturday’s League One clash between Shrewsbury Town and AFC Wimbledon, on Saturday 24th March 2018.

The day saw staff from Shrewsbury Town in the Community promote the idea for supporters to “Give a Pound” through the bucket collections held on the approach to the ground by National Citizen Service volunteers.

Within the fanzone, coaches from Shrewsbury Town in the Community were on hand to promote courses, programmes and events, whilst fundraising through a football card, with the opportunity to win a Shrewsbury Town signed football, which will also be available to be won prior to Easter Monday’s clash with Oxford United.

Lined with player escorts from the NCS programme, that in the summer of 2018 is set to take 480 young people onto the programme, the teams took the participants from Shrewsbury Town in the Community in their hands to lead the sides out for the game.

During the half time break, participants from Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s Mini Kickerz, Game Play and ShrewsAbility sessions, as well as the Regional Talent Club’s under 12s side took to the Montgomery Waters Meadow pitch to showcase the skills and techniques that the participants have gained under the guidance of Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s coaches.

The fixture also saw a half time parade of NCS participants and last years summer cup winners being showcased to the Montgomery Waters Meadow crowd, with NCS participants having the chance to promote the next programme, whilst the summer cup 2017 winners Shrewsbury Up and Comers Hawks basked in the glory of the crowd.
