Dean Henderson Pre Walsall

Deano looks ahead to Walsall game

Shrewsbury Town Goalkeeper Dean Henderson is looking forward to taking on local rivals Walsall on Saturday.

Town will be looking to cement their spot in the League One promotion places when the Saddlers visit the Montgomery Waters Meadow tomorrow.

Town go into the game on the back of reaching the Checkatrade Trophy final, something Dean is proud of, but the league is now his main focus.

“It was a great opportunity to get to Wembley, the lads did their job and now we’ve put it on the backburner”, said Henderson.

“It was a great experience playing and to get to Wembley for the first time in my career - hopefully the first of many. All the lads are buzzing, the manager’s happy, but it’s now time to focus on the league”

“Every game now we’ve got to look at as a cup final. We’ve got to go out there, enjoy ourselves, express our ability and I’m sure we will be alright.”

Walsall come into the game on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Rochdale on Tuesday night, but Henderson is wary of their potential.

“It’s obviously a derby and I’m looking forward to playing in it”, Dean said.

“It’s going to be tough, as all the games are. The first 10-15 minutes will be about settling the game down, getting on the front foot, getting hold of the ball at home, and I’m sure we will be okay. I’m sure the lads are up for it and we will go and give everything.”

A good crowd is expected for Saturday’s local derby and Henderson is looking to not get overawed by the occasion.

“I thrive under the pressure”, Dean said.

“Hopefully it will be nice to see a full house on Saturday because I think we deserve it now and I think people should get the sense that we are giving everything, and hopefully we can make this season a special one.”
