Ladies 'Keeper joins Villa

Beth Cleveley joins Aston Villa

Shrewsbury Town Ladies Goalkeeper Beth Cleveley has signed for Aston Villa.

The 19-year-old has been a senior figure in the ladies for the past three seasons after joining Town at the age of 16, and has been first-choice for the last two seasons.

Beth first stood out in the County Cup final against TNS at the age of just 17, winning the Player of the Match trophy. This season, Beth had more stand out games against Wolves and Aston Villa back in August.

She has already spent time on trial with Villa and will now join up with the Birmingham-based club, starting straight away with a game this Sunday.

Ladies Head Coach, Alex Owens, said it was a no brainer for Beth.

"She deserves this chance and no one will stop her from taking it", said Alex.

"It was a simple answer when Aston Villa asked to speak to her, we couldn't hold her back. Villa are six leagues above us and that shows the ability and potential that has been seen in her.

"It is a big loss for us, and one we didn't want to loose. Her progression this season has been outstanding and from her quiet self, she has started to raise her voice and confidence.

"She can only go on to do better things. On pleasing news, we have agreed that she can be dualled signed so we will still be able to use her on the occasion Villa don't have a game."
