Omar Beckles Pre Yeovil Town

Beckles looks ahead to Yeovil test

Shrewsbury Town defender Omar Beckles admits that he is refreshed and ready to go ahead of tonight’s Checkatrade Trophy Semi-Final against Yeovil Town.

It’s been 10 days since Town beat Charlton Athletic 2-0 at The Valley thanks to two postponements, but Omar believes the break should be seen as a positive.

“I got to spend a bit of time with the family and it’s been really good for me because it reminds me of why I do what I do”, said Beckles.

“It’s a good little bit of motivation and some good downtime as well, so for me it’s been positive but I guess we will find out on Tuesday whether it was right.

“It can be quite intense being in the same dressing room and around the lads consistently. We don’t get the winter breaks like some countries do, so I guess this is a little break that we’ve been able to have and I think it’s a really good thing.”

Going into tonight’s game, Yeovil are currently 39 places below Town in the EFL pyramid, but Beckles is wary of a side that have already beaten five Sky Bet League One sides this season.

“We definitely want to be at Wembley in the next round, but we try our best to take each game as it comes and this is another game to try and win”, Omar said.

“We are playing lower league opposition but we don’t really see it that way because myself and a lot of the other lads have just come from League Two, so we know that the margin really isn’t that big.

“We’ve seen it in the FA Cup where we’ve seen teams beat bigger teams, so it’s not something you can take lightly and we are making sure we are prepared and ready to win the game.”

The Town squad looked through some analysis of Yeovil yesterday and Omar is aware of the threats they pose.

“I don’t believe they have a certain style of play but they are a hardworking team”, said Beckles.

“They’ve got some big lads as well, so they are going to be a threat from set-pieces, but we’ve done our homework. We know what they are like now and the boys are prepared and know what they are up against, so we are looking forward to it.”
