Man of the match reflects on Play-Off Semi-Final victory

Ben Godfrey and his side ran out one nil winners over Charlton Athletic in the second leg of the Play-Off semi final, ensuring Town advanced to the final.

A Carlton Morris goal and man of the match performance from Ben Godfrey got Town over the line and into the final at Wembley.

Godfrey was pleased to be named the Sky Bet man of the match but feels the most important thing was the result. “It’s nice to be rewarded with man of the match. It is a special feeling but to be honest it’s not what matters,” said Godfrey.

“What mattered was the score today and getting that win and getting a step closer to what everyone at this club deserves.

“So I’m happy to get this reward but it means nothing at the end of the day. I’m just really proud of the lads for getting that step closer.”

Godfrey felt it was important to celebrate reaching the final but now feels it is important to focus on the up combining final. “The celebrations show what it means to everyone here, the staff, fans and players. It’s a massive achievement but we’re not done yet, said the midfielder.

“It’s about time we went to Wembley and won and give the fans and everyone at the club what they deserve. Today has gone now. We need to rest up and get ready for two weeks time to play who ever we face in the final.

“We will still be working hard the next two weeks. We know there is still a full 90 minutes of football or possibly more to achieve our dream.

“I’d never been to Wembley before I came here so I am really looking forward to it. No body wants that feeling again (Losing to Lincoln) and seeing another team lifting the trophy in front of you while you watch so we are going to go there full of confidence.

“We are a bunch of very competitive lads so hopefully we can get the win.”
