Family Excellence Status

Town receive stickers for their 2018 award

Shrewsbury Town today received their branding to acknowledge their achievement of being given Family Excellence status for the 2017/2018 season.

It was announced back in April that Town were one of a record breaking 56 clubs to be given the status for this year and this follows on from Town also achieving the status last year.

EFL Clubs received two ‘mystery family’ visits throughout the season, with their feedback and reports determining whether each respective Club would achieve ‘Family Excellence’ status.

Over the last-12 months Shrewsbury Town have come up with a number of initiatives to try and improve the matchday experience at the Montgomery Waters Meadow. This includes the FanZone, which was trialled at the backend of last season and has become a great success this campaign.

The club also improved the season ticket prices for young fans ahead of next season and this saw a 60% increase in sales for Under-12s compared to last year.

CEO Brian Caldwell was delighted to have won the award and believes attracting families is vital.

“It’s always nice to get recognition for the work we do to try and attract more families to Shrewsbury Town”, said Brian.

“Ever since I joined the club I have spoken about trying to encourage more young fans to the games and if our recent season ticket sales are anything to go by then we will certainly be doing that next season.

“There are a number of activities that we have to compete with when it comes to grabbing the attention of families, so it’s important that coming to the football is seen as good value for money.

“Next season we are making every home league game free for Under-12s, so this should help attract more families to come and give Shrewsbury Town a try.”
