Joe's thoughts after the defeat at home to MK Dons

Joe Riley and his side fell to a one nil defeat at the hands of MK Dons in the penultimate home game of the season for Town.

A second half penalty from Kieran Agard gave the visitors the lead and The Shrews couldn’t get a goal back.

Joe Riley was disappointed with the result but feels Town did ok in certain areas during the match despite the hot conditions, he said: “It was boiling out there. We started off with the manager wanting to play with energy and us pressing. We didn’t really do it but we did it in patches.

“We didn’t really play that great but we will go into Thursday, we know it’s a big game and we will step into that full of confidence.

“I don’t think we can have any complaints about the penalty. I think Toto knew. He did well out there but he made a mistake but hopefully it’s out the way for Thursday.”

Town’s next game is the first leg of the Play-Off semi final versus Charlton Athletic and Riley feels the squad can now focus on preparing, he said: “We beat them there last time so hopefully we can repeat that. We have got to go there with confidence.

“I know today wasn’t the greatest but what we have done this season and the way we have played, Charlton away was a fantastic performance as well so we can bounce into that game full with confidence.

“The games are live on sky, everyone talks about them games. As a footballer they’re the big games and the games you want to be involved in.

“It’s a big club but I’m sure we will take a big following as well like we did at Blackpool and hopefully we can give them something to shout about.”

Tickets go on sale for the Play-Off semi final games with Charlton Athletic from Monday.
