Scouse pair look ahead to Wembley Final

Shrewsbury Town Midfielder’s Jon Nolan and Shaun Whalley were in jovial mood ahead on Sunday’s Play-Off Final against Rotherham United.

The Liverpudlian pair have enjoyed fantastic seasons with the club, scoring a combined 22 goals between them, and they are now looking forward to the final game.

Shaun said: “I’m looking forward to it, it should be a good game on Sunday. It’s just about preparing right at home and in training and getting ready for the big match.”

Nolan continued: “I’ve won there and I’ve lost there and I would say that I prepared the same both times. I don’t think you can say what you can and can’t do, you’ve just got to hope that seven or eight of your players turn up and give a 10 out of 10 performance on the day, and that will give you an unbelievable chance of winning.”

This will be the second time that Town have travelled to Wembley this season and both players believe they have learnt from the Checkatrade Trophy Final defeat.

Jon said: “We’re obviously going to do things differently this time, going down the day before and stuff, but I think in the back of our minds we will know that we don’t want to experience that again.

Whalley said: “It’s just another game really. It just went very quickly and it was all over and we’d lost. It was bit of a funny game, the Lincoln game, but hopefully Sunday can be different and most of our players can give good performances, and that should see us over the line.”

Sunday’s game will be Whalley’s 121st game for the club and he would love to bring success to a fan base he has become close with over the last three years.

“It would be amazing. At the start of the season we didn’t think we’d have a chance of making it to the Championship and I’m sure none of the fans did either, but throughout the season we’ve proved to be a match for everyone in League One. It would be massive for the town and we just want to win.”
