Jon Nolan post Charlton Athletic

Nolan pleased with his goal at Charlton and looking forward to second leg

Jon Nolan and his Shrewsbury Town teammates ran out victors in the first leg of the Play-Off semi final with a one-goal lead over Charlton Athletic.

Nolan’s emphatic volley from outside the box gave Town the win against The Addicks and a goal advantage going into the home leg.

Nolan was pleased with his goal and his team’s performance against a tough Charlton side at The Valley, he said: “When I hit it, it hit the bar and I thought oh no but then I heard the cheer and gave it the old knee slide. I’m just happy it’s gone in to be honest.

“We aren’t going to get too ahead of ourselves. We knew it was going to be tough coming here but we knew we were confident that we could come here and be competitive and get a positive to take back home.

“I thought we were in the game all the way through and had some good chances. I had one in the first half, which I should do better with but we were competitive all through the game.

“We knew it would be tough and it’s only half time. We need to give an even better performance than that on Sunday. We need to go into the next game as if we are drawing. We know they’re going to come out, being a goal down but we are confident we can get another result.”

Nolan was also pleased with the backing from the 777 travelling Salopians who made the 350 mile round trip, despite the game being on TV.

“It’s great of them to come down with it being on TV. I think I said earlier on in the season that I’d probably be at home with my feet up having a cup of tea. They have come out in their numbers this season and supported us and we’re just glad we got a result so they can go home happy,” said Nolan
