Skipper reflects on the Play-Off Final defeat

Mat Sadler shared his post-match thoughts, after Sunday's Play Off Final defeat to Rotherham. Town were 1-0 down at half time but showed spirit to draw level through Rodman in the second half. Taking the game to extra-time, Salop’s energy levels faded and Miller’s captain Richard Wood scored his second to seal a 2-1 win.

“We’re completely heartbroken by losing the game, in extra time it just didn’t feel like we had enough in the tank to just go again” Sadler explained.

“We knew they’d be dangerous at set plays and that’s how it turned out, a set play game.”

“It was tough out there, it was hot, it was humid, it made the conditions really difficult to play that amount of game at that intensity that we normally play at and yeah, we are devastated.”

After the Deano penalty save and Rodman’s equaliser, Sadler admitted he thought that they would go on to win the game.

“I thought we’d go on and win the game at that time, but then I think with them last 15-20 minutes of that half it was tough out there for us.

“There were a lot of tired boys and we didn’t quiet have enough in the tank to push on when we had that bit of ascendancy in the game.”

Reflected on the squad over the season the skipper explained he was proud of his teammates and the effort they have put in.

“On the whole, it’s been a fantastic season, I’m proud of everybody. Of course, these times are difficult to take, but on reflection it’s been an incredible season.”

“A hell of a lot of ups, but ultimately on the big days were downs. We’ll reflect back on that maybe in a few week’s time with an element of pride.”

“We’re all devastated, it’s tough, it was a tough hit losing out there. We’re going to go away now, go on holiday and enjoy a bit of downtime but this will sit with us for a long time."
