Skipper looks ahead to Wembley Final

Club captain Mat Sadler and his side are preparing for the Sky Bet League One Play-Off final against Rotherham.

The defender knows what’s at stake for him and the club he has played for many times and feels his side have prepared well.

“With out a shadow of a doubt this is the biggest game. We have had League Two Play-Off heartbreak, which it was. We have got past that semi final stage this time and we have had a couple of relegation battles”, said Mat.

“So this is by far the biggest game while I have been here and it’s the biggest game for the club for how many years. It’s a big, big football match for the football club. One I am proud to be a part of.

“I’m very excited about it, it was an honour to lead them out in the Checkatrade game. I’d prefer Abs to be stood in front of me but it is what it is. It will be a huge honour, one that of course will only really be that huge honour if we win the game.

“It’s about that day and walking up those steps and lifting that trophy, that’s what it’s all about. To get there, there will be a hell of a lot of hard work and there is 11 other bodies that want to do exactly the same stood in front of you.

“There is a lot stood in our way. There is a lot of people writing us off but we have to break through all of that and hopefully we will be victorious.”

Sadler will be coming up against one of his former clubs on Sunday and but still has fond relationships with people at the club, despite only playing once. “At my time there, I got really close with the now manager who is a very, very good guy. I know Richie Barker really well from my time at Crawly”, said Mat.

“The captain, Richard Wood, he was there when I was there and we got on really well. There is some good links and some good people there.

“They are honest and hard working guys who want the best for their players and staff. That’s the real similarities between the two clubs.”

Sadler is confident his team can go to Wembley and get the victory the fans deserve. He said: “ It all comes down to Sundays game. We’re going into it on the back of two really good performances, which is a great place to be. We need one more big performance.”
