Checkatrade Trophy Second Round

16 November 2018

Shrewsbury Town have been drawn against Walsall in the second round of the Checkatrade Trophy.

The game is due to be played the week commencing the 3rd December.

After topping the group on Tuesday after a convincing win against Crewe, Town were rewarded with a home tie against Walsall.

Shrewsweb caught up with Brian Caldwell and asked what was his initial reaction to the tie.

"Having won at Crewe during the week to win the Group we were guaranteed a home match.

"Walsall with it being a derby match will always be hard fought and a very difficult game but the Checkatrade Trophy was one which we had success in last season ultimately being the runners up.

"I am sure the players will relish this tough encounter to try and reach the last 16 of the competition once again in front of our own home crowd."

Town were in the same group as Walsall in last years competition and narrowly lost out 0-1 after a stoppage-time goal from Bakayoko.

More details to be announced shortly.
