Academy staff helping Coyne

16 November 2018

Danny Coyne speaks on the Academy staff helping training.

Danny Coyne has temporarily taken charge of the first-team upon the departure of John Askey.

Coyne has enlisted the help of Academy Manager Eric Ramsay and Academy Goalkeeping Coach Phil Smart.

Coyne has been pleased with training and feels the pair have been a great temporary addition.

“They have been brilliant,” Town’s Goalkeeping Coach said. “We didn’t really have anybody last time when I was put in this situation.

“Eric is the right man to step up, he’s got the right experience and I have seen him coach before.

“He’s an excellent coach, he’s got a great manner and he’s really organised with his session plans and how he goes about his training.

“The lads saw him for the first time in the first training session and have been talking about how he was and what he was doing - that’s a positive.”

Coyne also spoke highly Phil Smart, who has been helping out with the Town goalkeepers.

“Phil has come in and has been helping out with the goalkeeping duties, which is brilliant,” Coyne said.  “I can just concentrate on the whole team now.

“Phil is a great coach, another one with a great manner about him. We want the right characters to come in to help the lads and we have got that with the both of them.

“I have to look at the bigger picture, but the keepers still need the proper coaching and the information given to them.

“Phil works tirelessly - his knowledge is vast. He loves his job and is very passionate about it and I like that.”
