Danny Coyne post Crewe Alexandra

13 November 2018

Danny Coyne reflects on Town's win over Crewe Alexandra.

Shrewsbury Town ran out 1-2 winners in this evenings Checkatrade Trophy clash with Crewe Alexandra.

Abo Eisa and Alex Gilliead were both on hand to put the goals away that saw Town end up top in group D.

Danny Coyne was pleased the Town team secured the win and feels his side showed great character during the tie.

“I enjoyed getting the right result, that was nice,” Coyne said. “It’s a situation I have been in before – you learn a lot from previous.

“I thought the lads did great tonight, considering everything that went on yesterday.

“There wasn’t much preparation for the lads. The first time we saw them was when we got to the hotel today.

“We let them know what’s going on and what the situation is with them and how we were going to change the shape.

“They were great for me tonight, so credit to them. Everything was prepared before the manager left the club yesterday.”

Coyne was pleased with his player’s efforts during the tie and how they reacted to his instruction.

“I was pleased with the effort really,” Coyne said. “We had given them some detail in the dressing room before the game.

“We didn’t have enough time to prepare for what I wanted them to do, but the chances we created were positive.

“We probably should have scored a lot more that what we did tonight. Looking at it at the other end – we gave away too many chances as well.

“Overall when you look at it – they have gone out and done very well.

“I am made up for both the wingers. That’s what we were telling them to do – be positive and let your shot off.

“We could have done a couple of other things, but I am just being picky now. It was good and I was made up for them all.”
