John Filan post AFC Wimbledon

3 November 2018

John Filan reflects on Town's win on the road.

Shrewsbury Town earned a 1-2 win away at AFC Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Record’s stadium this afternoon.

Town showed great character to come back from a goal down to earn all three points.

John Filan was pleased with the win and feels his team deserved to take home the points after a positive second half.

“The dressing room is a really happy place to be,” Filan said. “The players got what we deserved for the second 45 minutes.

“We came in at half-time and were disappointed and they were disappointed with themselves.

“Credit to all of the players and all of the squad. We always felt the players were working hard and together.

“That second-half performance showed that they are determined.

“As a group – players and staff collectively we were disappointed with the first-half and the second-half we got a responce.

“We got the responce that we needed and got the result we deserved.”

Filan was also pleased with the contributions of the team and felt Town's efforts deserved a win.

“I was pleased with all the members of the team,” Filan said. “Steve Arnold pulled out an unbelievable save from the free-kick.

“Mat Sadler followed in and cleared it for him. We defended, we put pressure on and people put their head in where it hurt.

“It was everything that you need in a performance.

“It’s what we are here to do – win games. We just want to win and this group of players and staff want to win football games.

“We know that there is a great performance in our team, some great effort and some great football.

“We have to now make sure we produce it for 90 minutes.”

Town next take on Salford City in the FA Cup next Sunday.
