John Askey Pre Wimbledon

1 November 2018

John Askey looks ahead to Town's fixture with AFC Wimbledon.

Shrewsbury Town take on AFC Wimbledon this weekend in Town’s next Sky Bet League One fixture.

Town will be looking to bounce back from a 0-3 defeat away at Oxford United’s Kassam Stadium.

Askey was disappointed with the performance last time out and hopes to see a different game come Saturday.

“Coming off the Barnsley game we were all excited,” said Askey. “To go into the Oxford game full of confidence and to be two goals down in ten minutes knocks you.

“It was an awful game. I don’t think either team strung two passes together, so it was deflating.

“We were poor - so it was disappointing. Coming into training we have tried to pick the lads up, which we don’t have trouble doing.

“They all have good attitudes and they are positive. There isn’t a lot we can take from Saturday other than saying it can’t happen again.”

Town take on AFC Wimbledon on the weekend and will be looking to take all three points from the Kingsmeadow Stadium.

“Going to Wimbledon it’s important we start right,” the Town boss said. “They haven’t won in the last six, so their confidence is going to be low.

“I’m sure being at home they are going to fight and scrap. It will be a difficult game on a tight pitch.

“We have got to make sure we are up for it and hopefully our ability will be enough to get us a win.

“We have to go out there with a positive mind, because the majority of teams we have played we have more than matched.

“Every game that they play in they have a great chance of winning. We just hope that it eventually it clicks – hopefully Saturday.”
